The Ringling

Places to play

The Ringling is located in Sarasota, Florida and preserves the legacy of John and Mable Ringling. It is home to the State Art Museum of Florida, the historic Ca’ d’Zan Mansion, Bayfront Gardens, the Art Library, two Circus Museums, and the Historic Asolo Theater. The grounds and gardens are free to visit, and the Museum of Art offers free admission on Mondays.

This is a wonderful place to visit with numerous attractions including the miniature circus, but the artwork that is available for a historical perspective of many centuries of paintings is outstanding. The highlights are the Circus history w/ the amazing miniatures detailing circus life, Ca’ d’Zan (felts like Venice, Italy) and the Grillroom for an enjoyable lunch. The grounds are well kept w/ Banyan trees everywhere centered around a rose garden. The fine art section is 16/17 century European masters with an interesting sculpture garden featuring a replica of the the David. The Skyspace building is also very interesting

The history of the circus and the methodology of how the circus operated was wildly interesting. The full model of the circus and how the workers performed the set up was such a detailed exhibit. The model trains revealed how the circus traveled from town to town and how the entire townspeople came out to watch the events unfold right on the streets.

Spend the extra $10 for the mansion tour.
